Six regions, six referral pathways

Every region MedTrav serves has a different route into Indian care — a different language, a different government scheme, a different local point of contact. Here's how each one works.

South Asia

Bangladesh

The largest single-country source of referrals, served through facilitator offices in Dhaka and Chittagong working directly with hospital liaison desks in India.

Common treatments: Cardiac care, oncology, orthopedics, liver transplant.

How a referral reaches India

  • Local facilitator collects reports & history
  • Case reviewed by an Indian specialist remotely
  • Hospital confirms treatment plan & cost estimate
  • Visa invitation letter issued, travel booked

Middle East

Iraq & the Gulf

Covering Oman, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Qatar — including patients referred under government Treatment Abroad programmes as well as private self-pay cases.

Common treatments: Transplant, cardiac surgery, neurosurgery, complex orthopedics.

How a referral reaches India

  • MOH Treatment Abroad committee approves the case
  • MedTrav receives the referral & matches a hospital
  • Government or private payer confirms funding
  • Case managed end-to-end through discharge

Central Asia

CIS Countries

Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan, where referrals typically originate with local medical societies and independent referring physicians rather than a government scheme.

Common treatments: Oncology, cardiac care, IVF.

How a referral reaches India

  • Referring physician requests a tele second opinion
  • Indian specialist responds with a recommendation
  • Patient & physician decide together on travel
  • MedTrav coordinates visa, hospital & logistics

Africa

Africa

Nigeria, Kenya, Ethiopia, Tanzania and Uganda — a region where a pre-travel tele-consultation second opinion is often the deciding factor before a patient commits to the trip.

Common treatments: Oncology, nephrology & dialysis, orthopedics.

How a referral reaches India

  • Patient or local agent submits reports online
  • Free tele-consultation second opinion arranged
  • Cost estimate shared before any commitment
  • Travel & visa handled once confirmed

Indian Ocean

Maldives

Coordinated directly with cases referred under Aasandha and the National Social Protection Agency (NSPA), alongside private self-funded patients.

Common treatments: Cardiac care, orthopedics, general surgery.

How a referral reaches India

  • NSPA/Aasandha approval or private enquiry received
  • Hospital & specialist matched to the case
  • Short-haul travel booked, often within days
  • Recovery & follow-up coordinated on return

Pacific

Fiji & the Pacific

Working with Fiji's Ministry of Health and Medical Services Overseas Referral Committee for cases that exceed local treatment capacity.

Common treatments: Cardiac surgery, oncology, neurosurgery.

How a referral reaches India

  • Overseas Referral Committee approves the case
  • MedTrav coordinates hospital & long-haul travel
  • Government or patient funding confirmed
  • Discharge summary returned to home physician
